Photography Workshop – Building the Image

Updated: Mar 25, 2022

Outstanding landscape images don’t just happen. They are built on a solid foundation of techniques that make them stand out from the rest. Those techniques happen before you take the image and not afterwards in post production.

Good composition is one example. Not just Rule of Thirds, but position, angle, and height. Sometimes moving a few steps to your left or right can make an huge difference. I have a tried and tested technique to show you that will deliver better results every time.

Great Lighting is essential for all forms of photography, especially in Landscape photography. However its full potential is often over looked. Learning to see light creatively is often the difference between being a photographer and becoming an artist.

Reflective Light – Photographers confronted with the vivid colours of sunrise or sunset usually shoot directly into the light source. This approach is quiet difficult to meter correctly and the end result is often a silhouette against a vivid sky. Reflective light is an option many overlook because they are to busy looking at the obvious and not the entire scene

Here are three classic examples of this style of lighting that work particularly well in seascapes achieving extra reflection off the waters surface. As you can see the results vary significantly between morning and evening light but the final outcome rarely disappoints.

Building the Image workshop cover these skills as well as information on the correct use of filters. This workshop is restricted to four allowing plenty of one on one time with myself. You will also receive a detailed booklet covering all aspects of the day. This workshop is suitable for beginner to advanced. Next Workshop – date goes here.
